Honestly, I didn't like the book until I was halfway through it, but in the end it turned out to be a very good one. If you are looking to buy an edition of the book, buy some other manufacturer's copy unless you'd like to decipher words with random "Chapter IV" in the middle just for fun. If you follow O'Reilly on TV this book will provide nothing new for you. This book stands alone for self-study, and it would be an outstanding choice for your small group. As one can imagine, there were hard times along the way but the author tells her story with such candor and humor that the reader cheers for her and at the end is delighted by her success. The characters really jumped off the pages, even (perhaps especially) the secondary characters. There is a lot of humor in this book; especially when the English author recounts some of his fish-out-of-water moments (he calls the bed of a pickup truck a "trunk" and marvels at chicken fried steak) but he also makes some terrific observations about modern America and the changing West. If you can overlook the first person writing of this story, and suspend the case of "in the real world that would be sexual harrassment lawsuit big time.
